Former Panama City Editor Dies in Crash

A Santa Rose Beach man has become Walton County’s latest traffic fatality in a 3:00 PM traffic crash Wednesday afternoon.

The mishap occurred on Walton County Highway 395 South.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the fatality as 62-year-old Claude C. Duncan.

Troopers say Duncan was headed south on CR 395 when for unknown reasons he traveled across the northbound lanes and onto the shoulder of the road. He then crashed into a tree.

Walton County Sheriff’s Deputy Day performed CPR on Duncan until Walton EMS arrived. He died at Sacred Heart Hospital in Santa Rosa Beach.

Duncan spent 10-years at the News Herald, retiring in 1996. He worked as an Editorial Page Editor.

He was a speech writer for President Bill Clinton and also worked for UPI wire service.
