Engineers in South Florida are trying to determine if an apartment building struck by an elderly motorist early Wednesday is structurally sound enough for dozens of its residents to come back home.
Authorities said an 87-year old man lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the complex, knocking down two of structure's support columns which forced several families to abandon their homes.
Sudden numbness is being cited for the man's inability to operate his car moments before the wreck.
Paramedics transported the elderly driver and his wife to an area hospital as a precaution.
