A call from a suspicious family member led to the arrest of John Ashley Petroff in connection with a spree of car burglaries on September 23, 2008 at Harders Park at 8100 John Pitts Road.
Six vehicles were burglarized the evening of September 23, 2008, as the vehicle owners were playing a ball game at Harder’s Park. Assorted tools, fishing rods, and two firearms were stolen from the cars. All of the vehicles were unlocked at the time of the burglaries.
Sunday, a call was made to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office by a suspicious family member of Petroff’s.
Petroff had sold him a firearm, and the family member wanted to have the Sheriff’s Office run a check on the gun to make sure it was not stolen. The firearm check revealed the gun had been reported stolen from one of the vehicles burglarized on September 23, 2008, at Harders Park.
Further investigation revealed that several items reported stolen during the vehicle burglaries on September 23, 2008, had been pawned recently by John Ashley Petroff. Petroff, DOB 12/5/78, of 8808 Resota Beach Road, was arrested and charged with Dealing in Stolen Property, five counts of Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance, Armed Burglary of a Conveyance, two counts of Grand Theft of a Firearm, two counts of Grand Theft, and two counts of Theft. The investigation continues and additional charges are possible.
