VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The Indian River County Sheriff's Office
says an officer is recovering after shooting himself in the leg during a training session.
According to the sheriff's office, part-time officer Joe Richter shot himself at a public shooting range in the county Tuesday afternoon.
Richter, a 26-year veteran of the Indian River Shores Public Safety Department, was airlifted to a hospital. A hospital spokesman said he was in fair condition late Tuesday afternoon.
A sheriff's office spokesman says the agency will investigate.
