12-Year-Old Struck by Car Near Bus Stop

A 12 Year Old Deerlake Middle School student was struck by a car Tuesday morning as he crossed the street to catch his school bus.

It happened at the corner of Conservancy Drive and Shady Grove Way in Summerbrooke at about 8:40 am. Leon County deputies say as the school bus approached, the boy tried to cross the street and was hit by a van.

LCSO Spokesman Tony Drzewiecki says the 12 year old was thrown onto the hood and had possible head injuries but was conscious when he was loaded into the ambulance.

Drzewiecki says more details will be released soon.

This morning, at approximately 8:40AM, a 12 year old Deerlake Middle School student was walking to his bus stop on Conservancy Drive near Shady Grove Way.

As the school bus approached the bus stop, the child crossed the street when he was struck by a 2002 Honda Odyssey Van which was traveling west on Conservancy Drive.

The child impacted the front of the vehicle and was thrown on the hood. The child suffered minor scrapes, lacerations and a possible head injury.

The injures do not appear to be life threatening and the child was conscious as he was treated and transported by Leon County Emergency Medical Services to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for evaluation and observation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Leon County

Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit and will take several days to complete.
