CITRA, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Highway Patrol says a truck driver was on his cell phone when his tractor-trailer slammed into a school bus, killing a 13-year-old girl.
FHP identified the girl Wednesday as Frances M. Schee, a middle school student. She was one of 21 students aboard the bus when 30-year-old Reinaldo Gonzalez's truck rear-ended it Tuesday. Both vehicles caught on fire.
FHP Captain Gregory LaMont tells WFTV-TV that Gonzalez told authorities he was on his cell phone at the time of the crash. LaMont says charges against Gonzalez are pending.
Eight other students were injured - two critically. Both drivers also were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
