Three-year-old Boy Killed in Punta Gorda Fire

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) - A 3-year-old boy was killed and his father injured when a fire ripped through a wooden shed where they had been sleeping in Punta Gorda.

Charlotte County authorities say the fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found 47-year-old Homer Lee Turner outside the shed.

He had sustained second-degree burns and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

The man's son was found dead inside the wooden structure.

According to authorities, the father and son sometimes used the shed as a bedroom. It was located in the backyard of a home where the child's grandmother lives.
