MIAMI (AP) - Police have arrested a Miami man they say was planning to kill a Miami-Dade police officer.
Authorities say they taped discussions between 18-year-old Mackendy Venant and a federal inmate where they discussed getting rid of Officer Nelson Rodriguez.
The inmate had been indicted in federal court on drug and firearm charges, and Rodriguez was the arresting officer.
Authorities say Venant was paid $1,000 to kill Rodriguez, and he and the inmate discussed how he could get an AK-47 rifle.
Venant, a Haitian citizen, was charged with conspiracy to murder a law enforcement office. He was being held without bail and also has an immigration hold.
