Bay County, Florida authorities are warning residents of a new scam that's sweeping the area.
They say text messages are being sent to cell phones claiming to be from Bay Credit Union. The message reportedly informs the recipient that their Bay Credit Union account has been suspended and they need to restore it.
The message urges the victim to call a phone number which authorities say connects to an automated system. That system, investigators say, requests personal information like bank account and credit card numbers.
Bay County authorities advise anyone who receives these messages to ignore them. They say it's a scam and is in no way connected with Bay Credit Union.
