MIAMI (AP) - A federal judge in Miami is refusing to order work to resume on a huge reservoir project in the Everglades.
U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno ruled late Wednesday against the Miccosukee Indian Tribe. Moreno said ordering work to resume on the project might hamper the state's ability to complete the purchase of 187,000 acres of U.S. Sugar Corp. land for Everglades restoration.
Moreno also noted that the reservoir is subject to an ongoing federal court challenge pending before another judge. State water managers said that case was the reason work was halted earlier this year on the project in western Palm Beach County.
The Miccosukee Tribe said the reservoir delay could cause continued damage to the Everglades from farm fertilizer runoff.
