Construction worker struck in hit-and-run wreck

WOODSTOCK, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities were searching for a driver in what they call a hit-and-run that seriously injured a construction worker north of Atlanta.

CBS Atlanta reports that two southbound lanes of Interstate 575 remained shut down in the Woodstock area late Friday morning as authorities investigated the crash.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials say the worker was struck around 9:45 a.m. by a gray pickup truck, which was reported to have extensive damage from the accident.

Woodstock police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the worker, an employee of C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., sustained serious injuries and was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
