SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - An 80-year-old South Carolina woman who police say was shot by her 14-year-old grandson has died from her injuries.
The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office says Rachel Gaston
Lankford died at the hospital Friday afternoon where she had been
in critical condition since Tuesday's shooting at a Spartanburg
Investigators say the boy used a .22-caliber rifle given as a
birthday gift to kill his father, great aunt and the grandmother.
All three were shot in the head.
The coroner's office says 44-year-old Joe Robert Lankford and
83-year-old Virginia Dare Gaston died at the scene.
The teen is charged with murder, and prosecutors plan to hold a
hearing to determine if he should be tried as an adult.
His name has not been released.
