The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call this morning to 7418 Thomas Drive, Panama City Beach in reference to a stabbing. A witness called 911 at 8:58 am to report two men, one with a knife, fighting in the street. Deputies responded by 9:00 am and separated the two men. The stabbing victim, Jay Worthington, stated he had driven by and seen the other man clearing off sidewalks with a leaf
blower. Worthington stated he heard a rock hit his car as he drove by. Worthington drove around the block before returning to confront the man with the leaf blower about the rock.
The man with the leaf blower stated he has a medical condition that has left him very weak. He was out clearing off his sidewalk using the blower when Worthington drove up, got out of his car, and confronted him about causing a rock to hit his car. The victim stated he apologized for any rock that may have hit Worthington’s car and added he was unaware of causing that to happen. According to the victim, and statements from witnesses, Worthington then pushed the
victim to the ground.
The victim, 63 years of age, stated he was afraid of Worthington and pulled a knife for his own protection. The victim stated Worthington grabbed him from behind and began to beat on him. The victim stated he stabbed Worthington but Worthington was able to get the knife from him and continued to beat on him.
Witnesses began to yell at Worthington to stop and called 911. Deputies examined Worthington’s car and found no damage. Jay Worthington has not yet been arrested. He received medical care this afternoon for the stabbing wound. Tuesday investigators will request a warrant be issued for him on a charge of battery.
