The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) is conducting a commercial burglary investigation at a local shopping destination.
The WCSO received information from Silver Sands Factory Stores’ security personnel at approximately 5:55 a.m. today regarding a suspicious package near the Coach Factory store. The backdoor of the business was also open.
WCSO investigators were dispatched to the scene and confirmed the package was suspicious. A perimeter was established and the immediate area was cleared to allow WCSO investigators and crime scene technicians, South Walton Fire District, State Fire Marshal’s Office, Bay County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and the Eglin Air Force Base’s explosive ordinance disposal technicians and personnel to preserve the integrity of the crime scene and to ensure public safety.
The package was collected for evidence processing and was determined to be nonthreatening.
The WCSO is currently conducting a burglary investigation to determine what may have been stolen and who is responsible for the crime. With the exception of the Coach Factory store, the shopping center is open for business.
