SPARTANBURG, SC (AP) -- Authorities say a customer at a South
Carolina Waffle shop pulled a gun and shot one of two men trying to
rob the restaurant.

The Greenville News reports (http://grnol.co/AkoQDk ) that the
shooting took place early Saturday morning inside a Waffle Shop off
Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the dead man as 19-year-old
Dante Lamont Williams of Roebuck, who was shot in the head and
body.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright declined to identity the
customer, citing concerns for his safety.

Authorities said the customer had a concealed weapon permit and tried to hold the two men at gunpoint until officers arrived, but that one suspect began to point his gun at the customer, who then fired shots.

The second robber fled and is being sought by authorities.

Don't be a victim. Be trained, skilled, and if necessary for your area - licensed. Carry a gun and level the field with criminals.

I saw a report that said, more people carrying guns, crime goes down. Makes you wonder why they want to make a law to take away our guns.

It's a tragedy that this young 19 year old man went to this place for armed robbery, but maybe it's best to end this way.

It sounds like a savings of money for a trial and jail time. This is what more dangerous criminals need to happen to them

Odd, all the Waffle Houses I have ever been in have a sign saying you can't carry a gun in a Waffle House. Guess somebody broke the law. Another reason WH should change their policy.

Yay for the customer who shot and killed a thug. So you think it would have been better if the thug shot and killed the customer, you are probably a thug yourself. Tote more guns, and rid the world of thugs....

I don't know what the law is in SC, but in my state if a business posts a conspicuous sign saying NO FIREARMS PERMITTED or some similar wording, then you are not allowed to carry your concealed weapon into that business. I am a concealed carry permit holder but leave my pistol in the truck if I visit such an establishment.

Customer should be recognized by city for such a heroic act. I wish this happened more often around this country and we would then see a significant decline in such crimes.

I'm proud of the customer, it's about time we all got together and stopped the crime. Thumbs up customer.

It could have ended a lot worse. Thanks to the heroic act of the citizen it ended in the customers being safe. I won't be without a gun, there are many mean people out there.
