Violent Crime in Alabama up 3 Percent in 2012 Not 7.5, Says State

The Alabama Criminal Justice information center disputed the FBI’s violent crime numbers for the state.

The FBI reported violent crime in the state was up seven and a half percent in 2012.

The state agency said that the rate increased three percent.

The FBI reported Alabama had 21,693 violent crimes in 2012, while the state reported that there were 20,863.

According to the Criminal Justice Information Center, homicides were up five percent and aggravated assaults have increased by six percent.
