VictoryLand Casino Hearing Set for Tuesday

A Macon County judge has scheduled a hearing Tuesday on a request by the state attorney general for him to step aside from a case involving a raid at the VictoryLand casino.
Circuit Judge Tom Young Jr. set the hearing after Attorney General Luther Strange said the judge should not handle the case involving the seizure of more than $223,000 in cash and 1,615 gambling machines from VictoryLand. Strange maintains the judge is prejudiced against the state's evidence because he refused to issue a search warrant for the casino raid until he was ordered to act by the Alabama Supreme Court.
The attorney general wants a different judge to decide whether the state can keep money from the raid and destroy the gambling machines that were seized Feb. 19.
