Two Dothan police officers are promoted to the role of Corporal today. Chief Gregory Benton gave Corporals Robert Cole and Jim Matheny plaques and badges for the honor.
Mayor Mike Schmitz, other officers, and family members attended the short event. Corporal Matheny has been looking forward to the promotion for a long time. Entering his 24th year of service next month, he knows what it takes to serve this day in age.
"All I can say is stay upbeat with things, stay in tune with things, and stay up with the people you are trying to protect," he said.
Matheny looks forward to a few more years on the job, and for those other officers looking for a promotion, he recommends being patient and persistent.
Corporal Cole has been on the force for nine and a half years.
