The Bay County Sheriff’s Office arrested two suspects on January 4, 2013, wanted in connection to the burglary of a home on December 21, 2012, in Callaway.
Deputies originally responded in December to the home on Letohatchee Drive in Callaway at about 4:30 pm. The victim stated she heard a knock on the front door. She chose not to answer the door because she was home alone, but did go towards the door when she heard a second knock some ten to twenty minutes later. She witnessed someone standing on the front porch break the glass in a window in the front door. The victim began to scream and the suspect ran. The victim then stated she looked out a window and saw a silver car she recognized as belonging to a Cody Lane Bass driving away. She also saw a white male running away. She then called 911.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division were able to develop Cody Lane Bass and Christopher Shane Purswell as suspects. During interviews, Bass and Purswell gave several different stories before finally admitting to knowing the owner of the home and trying to recover $10 owed to them by breaking the window in the front door with a hammer.
Investigators believe Cody Lane Bass broke the window while Purswell waited in the silver vehicle and drove it away. When Bass realized there was someone in the home he ran and later called Purswell on his cell phone to pick him up.
Bass, of Callaway, was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Dwelling.
Purswell, of Parker, was arrested and charged with Principle to Burglary of a Dwelling.
