Three Arrested in Panama City Robbery, Fourth on Loose

Bay County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested three last night and are looking for a fourth suspect in a robbery on Panama City Beach.

Shortly after 5pm yesterday afternoon, a man, driving home from work, noticed a silver Ford Focus was following him.

As he pulled into his driveway the Focus stopped behind him and two white males wearing blue bandanas across the lower half of their faces exited their vehicle.

One suspect got into the passenger side seat and began to assault the victim with his fists.

The victim, afraid the second suspect would also enter his car, tried to drive away.

However, the suspect inside the car forced the victim to stop at which point the second suspect opened the vehicle door and also began to assault the victim.

The two suspects took cash and a prescription pill bottle of Xanax before leaving.

The victim then called 911.

Investigators developed information on the possible location of the silver Ford Focus and deputies were able to locate the vehicle at 4010 Thomas Drive, Panama City Beach.

Three of four suspects were located in an apartment in the complex at that address.

Investigators arrested Todd Wheatley, DOB 6-22-84, of 4010 Thomas Drive, Panama City Beach, identified as the driver of the Ford Focus during the robbery.

Wheatley was charged with Principle to Robbery and Possession of Xanax.

Investigators believe Wheatley was promised the victim’s Xanax in exchange for driving the vehicle during the robbery.

Also arrested was Jay Deweese, DOB 8-26-85, of 4010 Thomas Drive, Apt. 104, Panama City Beach, and Daniel Eugene Smith, DOB 9/26/83, of 4010 Thomas Drive, Apt. 107, Panama City Beach.

Deweese was charged with Robbery and Smith, who remained in the car during the robbery, was charged with Principle to Robbery.

Investigators were unable to locate the fourth suspect and have issued warrants for Henry Paul Baumgartner, DOB 5-15-82, of 4010 Thomas Drive, Panama City Beach, Apt. 106.

Baumgartner and Deweese are believed to be the two bandana-wearing men who physically assaulted the victim.

Anyone with information on Henry Paul Baumgartner is asked to call the Bay County Sheriff’s Office at 747-4700 or CrimeStoppers at 785-TIPS.
