Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen announced the arrest of three individuals today as a result of a Safety Sweep conducted by the BCSO K-9 Unit on the campus of Bozeman School.
The Safety Sweep, conducted at the request of Bozeman School Administration, took place in the high school parking lot Thursday morning, February 3, 2011.
Two students were arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana less than 20 grams, a misdemeanor.
Also arrested was Daryl Trent Shumate, a teacher at Bozeman School.
Trent, DOB 6-5-70, of 13716 Sunrise Lane, Southport, was charged with Possession of Marijuana less than 20 grams and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
Three firearms were also discovered inside Shumate’s car.
All three were secured and contained appropriately within the vehicle and no criminal charges were filed against Shumate in connection to the firearms.
Florida State Statute allows persons over the age of 18 to carry a firearm within a vehicle as long as the firearm is properly contained.
