UPDATE: Suspicious Death Investigation in Clio

UPDATE at 5:52 p.m.

S.B.I. Task Force and the State Fire Marshal's Office are working the investigation.
Once they finish, the case will be turned over to the district attorney.
UPDATE at 12:48 p.m.

After preliminary investigation, Barbour County Sheriff Leroy Upshaw says the death of Eugene Johnson, 81, is being ruled a homicide.

Johnson's body will be sent to Montgomery for an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

No suspects have been named.

Authorities are investigating a suspicious death in Clio.

There was a fire Wednesday night at Clio Manor Apartments on Robinson Street in Clio.

Once the fire was out, a body of 81-year-old Eugene Johnson was discovered inside the structure.

Sources say the Johnson may have been dead before the fire started.

Dothan Police investigators have been called in to assist the state fire marshal's office in the case.

Barbour County Sheriff's Department, Clio Police Department, Barbour County District Attorney's Office, S.B. I Fire Marshals and ATF are investigating.

More details will be released as they become available.
