The Taliban is claiming responsibility for two suicide bombings in southern Afghanistan that killed at least 22 people and wounded 50 near the huge coalition airbase in Kandahar.
Officials say the blasts occurred near small shops in a parking and waiting area for trucks that supply logistics to Kandahar Air Field.
One suicide bomber detonated his motorbike filled with explosives first. Then, as people rushed to assist the casualties, another suicide bomber walked up to the area and blew himself up.
Meanwhile, Afghan police say two civilians have been killed in a nighttime raid by NATO troops against militants holed up in a village in eastern Afghanistan.
A NATO spokesman says no civilians were killed but a provincial police chief says a woman and a child died, along with a dozen militants.
