The following is an official statement from the Dale County Sheriff's Department:
On Sept 17, at 8:29 a.m. Dale County Schools Administrators contacted the Sheriff’s Office in reference to a “possible” threat directed towards G.W. Long Elementary and High School.
School Administrators were informed by a citizen of a potential threat that was posted on a local resident’s Twitter account.
School Administrators were proactive and immediately placed the schools on lockdown as a precaution. Within minutes multiple Dale County Deputies and Alabama State Troopers responded to the campus. Investigators quickly made contact with the individual that was alleged to be the author of the posts. That individual was detained and taken to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Once the individual was detained the school was placed on a “soft lockdown” while Deputies and Troopers remained on campus until students were dismissed for the day.
The individual that was detained cooperated with Investigators and after a comprehensive investigation the individual was released. Investigators interviewed possible witnesses to the threat but all the alleged allegations were unfounded.
