CRESTVIEW, Fla. (AP) - A Florida Panhandle man has pleaded guilty to fatally shooting another man during an argument.
Eddie Rice pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder. Rice
previously rejected a plea deal that would have let him plead guilty to third-degree murder, with a 40-year sentence. He now faces a possible life sentence at a Feb. 9 hearing.
Authorities say Rice and Jasper Cornelius Brown fatally shot Brown's brother, Jeffery, in November 2009.
The two men were armed and looking for a man they had argued with earlier in the day, when they approached a group of people in front of a Crestview home. Tensions mounted, and witnesses say Jeffery Brown was trying to diffuse the situation when he was shot.
Jasper Brown pleaded guilty to third-degree murder last month as
part of a deal. He received 20 years in prison.
