Police Search for Interco Coins & Jewelry Burglar Suspect

At around 1:00 a.m., the owner of the Interco Coins and Jewelry store received a phone call. It was his alarm company telling him his store had been burglarized.

"I noticed that the glass was broken on the door."

That's the first thing Herbert Haar saw when he arrived at his jewelry store early Wednesday morning.

"There was a brick laying right here on the floor and then there was another brick laying here in the showcase right here."

The burglar broke in at exactly 12:42 a.m. and took more than $80,000 worth of jewelry. He was in and out in less than 15 seconds.

"It was just amazing how fast they worked," Ramona Haar said. "They were in and out in a few seconds so that in itself is amazing how fast they work."

It happened so fast that Herbert believes the burglar had a specific plan.

"They had been in here before and knew where the expensive jewelry and diamonds were," he said. "People like this don't need to be around. They can go out there and work like everybody else."

And for the future...

"I'm getting too old to wake up in the middle of the night with a call from the police that the alarm went off. I will have to take measures to prevent it because enough is enough."

Enough late night phone calls, enough damage and enough dealing with criminals.

Herbert says he plans to put up bars behind the glass in the front of his store to prevent any future burglaries.

The store owner is offering a reward in the case. If you have information that could help police in their investigation, call Crimestoppers at 793-7000.
