Panama City Man Sentenced for Fleeing Officers

Circuit Judge Michael Overstreet on Monday sentenced Jessie Dean Brown Jr., 30, of 127 Poston Ave., to 10 years in prison for fleeing from law enforcement officers.

Prosecutor Rob Sale described at trial last month a harrowing chase and struggle with officers on March 9, 2010. Brown was driving a 1998 Buick about 3:30 a.m. when officers tried to conduct a traffic stop. He sped away, reaching a speed of 70 mph on 15th Street as he fled toward Springfield. His car crashed into a 2000 GMC Yukon at Transmitter and Game Farm roads and Brown ran into the woods with officers close behind.

When he was located, Brown fought with the first two officers before a third officer on scene Tased him.

Brown was convicted of fleeing or attempting to elude with high speeds and reckless driving, a second-degree felony with a penalty of up to 15 years in prison. Jurors also found him guilty of resisting an officer without violence, a misdemeanor.
