The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the State Attorney’s Office, is continuing its investigation into a shooting death that took place around 2 a.m. Sunday, May 12 at a home in Dorcas.

Investigators say the victim, 56-year old Thomas “Gerry” Rangeley of Gonzalez Louisiana, was a visitor at the home and the brother-in-law of the home’s owners.

Deputies who called to the scene at 5485 County Road 393 say they found Rangeley inside the trailer with a gunshot wound to the chest. He later died at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview.

Investigators say Rangely had been shot once with a .22 caliber rifle by 51-year old Burton Terry Todd of that address.

Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses to help determine the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.

No charges have been filed at this time.
