Coffee County Sheriff's investigators are at a make-shift dog pen tonight.
The pen is maintained by the town of New Brockton at its sewage treatment plant.
The animals have insect-infested standing water to drink and ant-laden food. Investigators say they also found shallow graves. They continue gathering evidence. Animal cruelty charges will be filed.
"We also have some dead carcasses lying within a short distance of the food,” said Coffee Co. Sheriff Dave Sutton. “It's a very bad situation, and I will tell you one thing when the sun rises tomorrow morning and I come to work, I will seek arrest warrants for the individuals responsible for this."
The animals are receiving medical attention from the Save Our Shelter facility in Enterprise.
