Murder Suspect Asks for Reduced Bond

Dothan, AL - A Dothan murder suspect was in court Thursday for a bond hearing.

The victim’s family stood nearby as the suspect’s attorney, Eric Davis, asked for a reduced bond.

Tareka Stoddart is charged with the murder of Chad Clayton, 41. Her bond is set at $500,000.

A Dothan police investigator said on the night of July 19, Stoddart and Clayton were arguing.

He claims the two used to date, but it’s not clear what they were arguing about that night.

The investigator said Stoddart used a screwdriver to stab Clayton multiple times.

After open heart surgery, Clayton spent two weeks in a critical care unit (CCU). He was then taken off life support and died.
The defense argued Stoddart is not a flight risk, and asked for her bond to be lowered.

However, prosecutors say she is a violent person.

In fact, records show this wasn’t the first altercation between the two. Police said Stoddart stabbed Clayton last July, but he didn’t press charges.

District Judge Benjamin Lewis held her bond at $500,000.

She remains in the Houston County Jail.

This stabbing death became the city’s first murder of 2013.
