Nashville police and child protective services are investigating how a young boy wandered from his family's motel room early Tuesday morning and ended up at a nearby convenience store.
Police said the clerk told them the child, who appeared to be about six or seven years old, wasn't wearing any clothes as he ran about the store.
Stacy Smith was working the overnight shift when the boy entered the Mapco Mart around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Smith said the boy wasn't wearing any clothes and could not communicate.
Later, it was determined the child was autistic.
Smith said the boy ran into the back of the store, reaching for snack foods.
Smith said he and customers in the store clothed the child with whatever they could find.
Nashville police said the boy's mother called them to report her son missing around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
She said they were staying at the Days Inn behind the convenience store.
She told police it appeared her son had gotten on a chair to unlock the door and security latch.
The child and his mother were reunited.
