Military College of S. Carolina Sued for Hazing

A former Citadel cadet is suing the Military College of South Carolina for alleged hazing.

22-year-old Tyler Phillips says his dream of becoming a naval officer were crushed within his first week at the Citadel.

He says when he refused to haze another cadet, he was beaten, harassed and humiliated by his classmates. Phillip says he kept quiet until December of 2009.

That's when he says one night, six cadets came into his room and told him and another cadet they needed to leave or face bodily harm and death. Phillips says they wanted him to light himself on fire, and that's when his parents notified the school, but they say nothing was done.

Phillip has filed a lawsuit against the citadel.

An attorney for the Citadel says the students accused of hazing Phillips were disciplined but remain at the school.
