McCloud Takes Plea Bargain for Murder Charge

A Dothan man charged with capital murder is offered a plea deal that lessened his charge today.

27-year-old, Kevin McCloud, was originally charged with capital murder for the fatal shooting of Pete Reaves.

McCloud accepted the plea deal and was sentenced to 99 years in prison.

In June of 2007, Reaves was shot to death and McCloud was also injured. Investigators say the crime was drug related.

“I talked with the family, and they decided. As a DA I went along with their wishes, but let me send a message real clear, real loud, to those other people facing capital murder charges in Henry and Houston County. This is not the norm,” says District Attorney, Doug Valeska.

Two other suspects were also arrested in the case. One was found not guilty and the other is still awaiting trial. Another part of McCloud's plea bargain, is to testify against the shooter.

racial profiling could possibly be a good thing in some instances. 21 Muslim men were apparently responsible for 911. Many other Muslims have been responsible for many other terrorist attacks against our country. I realize Muslim isnt a race but still, it's something to profile. Also we have an estimated 11million illegals here in our country and Mexico is our closest neighbor that seems to have the most illegals here so some racial profiling there might help get rid of these eleven million illegals so that our 15 million unemployed would have those jobs to choose from and our hospitals woudlnt be over crouded and the medical rates could come down because the ones who pay for services woudnt be paying for those eleven million illegals. So some racial profiling might not be a bad thing.

I agree with you Derrick. It's unethical. So sick of racial profiling. It will never stop but if we came together we could minimize it. I thought this was America

Doug is right this is not normal for him to give 99 years to a non shooter in a murder case when you sentenced a first offense 20 yr old to 50 years for a robbery.I keep a close eye on your work in dothan as district attorney and i can clearly see that theres a huge difference when it comes to racial profiling but u too will be judged by god almighty eventually and you will be judged accordingly and not by your color.
