Marianna Police Department Press Release

On 12-02-2010, officers from the Marianna Police Department responded to the Marianna Garden Apartments located at 3070 Carters Mill Road in reference to an intoxicated male harassing people for money.

Upon arrival, contact was made with management who gave a description of the male and asked the subject be issued a trespass warning and be removed from the property since the subject was not a resident.

Contact was made with the subject and he was identified as Reginald Devon Kirkland, 31 year old black male, of 3377 Tendall Road, Cottondale. During the course of the contact, Mr. Kirkland was requested to dispose of his liquor bottle.

Mr. Kirkland removed a bottle from his back pocket and threw the item into a dumpster. Mr. Kirkland then removed a small green plastic container from his front pocket, and the officer observed what he believed to be narcotics inside the container.

Mr. Kirkland was ordered to hand over the item and he quickly threw the item into the dumpster to avoid the officer taking possession of the item.

Mr. Kirkland was detained and the item was retrieved and found to contain cocaine packaged in three separate bags. Mr. Kirkland was placed under arrest.

Upon a search of Mr. Kirkland, also found on his person was a prescription bottle of medication with another persons name listed on the label, and found inside this bottle were 48 pills of Xanax(In two different shapes and colors).

Also found on Mr. Kirkland was almost $500 in cash in different denominations.

Based upon the evidence Mr. Kirkland was charged with the following offenses:
1. Possession of a Controlled Substance (Xanax) with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school.
2. Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine) with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school.
3. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
4. Tampering with Evidence.

Mr. Kirkland was transported to the Marianna Police Department and later to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
