Marianna - A Friday night murder, in a usually quiet Marianna neighborhood, has law enforcement looking for many answers.
Marianna Police Chief Hayes Baggett says witnesses told authorities 53 year old Lynwood Coleman was inside a home on Orange Street in Marianna Friday night.
An unknown suspect allegedly opened the front door and fired a shot with a handgun. The bullet struck Coleman in the upper left side of his chest. Jackson County Fire Rescue rushed Coleman to the hospital and he died a short time later. Authorities say the suspect ran from the area and has yet to be found.
"FDLE crime labs came to the scene last night with assistance from the sheriff's office. We were running down leads and a motive at this time a motive has not been established," said Baggett.
Although there is no suspect in custody, authorities are interviewing several people of interest, but have not figured out a motive for the shooting. But, authority's say Coleman was no stranger to the community.
"We were familiar with Mr. Coleman we would see him around town quite a bit. He has worked at several restaurants in town, so we are familiar with him," said Baggett.
Coleman’s sister Michell McKinnon says she was with her brother 30 minutes before the shooting.
"For somebody to go out there and do that to him...to take his life for no reason...he didn't bother nobody for them to take his life like that," said McKinnon.
McKinnon says in hindsight, she wishes she wouldn't have left her brother.
"I wish I would have took him then or stopped back by on my way out maybe this wouldn't of took place," said McKinnon.
