DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A New York man who had a gun in his
carry-on luggage at a Daytona Beach airport last year has been
sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
A federal judge in Florida sentenced 46-year-old Alberto Cintron on Tuesday to 47 months. He was found guilty in March of possession
of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Prosecutors say Cintron was passing through the security checkpoint at Daytona Beach International Airport last August when a Volusia County deputy spotted the handgun on the X-ray scanner.
Cintron admitted to deputies that he had obtained the silver and black AMT .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun from a friend in New York years ago.
Cintron is prohibited from possessing a firearm because of a 1993 federal conviction for cocaine distribution.
