ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- A man being sought in the slaying of a
19-year-old soldier from Commerce has surrendered to police after a
standoff at a home in an Athens subdivision.

Police say they received a tip Wednesday morning on the
whereabouts of 21-year-old Cody Stanley Lumpkin.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/tQJ3zk ) police
say officers went to the home to serve a murder warrant in the
shooting of Jeremy Sean Buchanan Sunday night and found Lumpkin
inside with six other people.

Officers say four of the others left and two remained inside
with Lumpkin, who promised to surrender and left the house early
Wednesday afternoon with his hands in the air.

Buchanan was shot in the head and died Monday morning after
doctors at Athens Regional Medical Center removed him from life
support.
