Man Shoots Teenage Son in Chest

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Police say a Mobile man is in jail after his teenage son was shot in the chest.

Jail records show that 40-year-old Travis Monroe Hawkins is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on a first-degree domestic
violence charge.

Police say officers responded to a domestic shooting around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

They found a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound in the chest.

Officials say the teen was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.

Police say the father fired a few shots while he arguing with his son.

Police spokesman Christopher Levy says the son tried to take the gun from the father, and the father shot him and left the scene.

Police say the father called 911 around 10 p.m. Monday to turn himself in.

You're a idiot, you don't shoot your child when you are in a argument with him. This father must have had a few and wasn't thinking when he done this. My children use to argue with me,and I'd jump up and say don't you sass me.And they'd go on. I think they did it mostly to see me get all fired up.
