On Friday, May 20, 2011 the Henry County Sheriff’s Office / Abbeville Police Task Force arrested an Abbeville man on felony charges.

An investigation by agents of the Task Force resulted in the arrest of 34 year old Jonathan Paul Rivers of Abbeville for electronic solicitation of a child, a class B felony, as well as facilitating the travel of a child for an unlawful sexual act, a class A felony.

Rivers was arrested after making contact with a 12 year old female and encouraging her to have sexual intercourse with him. Rivers further spoke with the victim and made plans and assisted in the meeting with the victim for the purpose of having sexual intercourse. Rivers is currently free on bail after posting a $200,000.00 bond. Other charges could be pending as the investigation continues.

The Henry County Sherriff’s Office and the Abbeville Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to be mindful of their children’s online activities and report any inappropriate contact with your children to your local law enforcement agency.
