ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- A central Florida man has been charged in the death of his girlfriend's 6-month-old daughter.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office reports that 22-year-old Lonnie Leonard Jr. was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

Officials say Malloree Tatum died in November from blunt force trauma to the head.

Leonard claimed he was sleeping in another room and woke up when he heard two thumps. He says he found Malloree face down on the floor beside the bed and assumed she rolled off the edge. The
child's mother told authorities the infant hadn't learned to roll over or crawl.

Leonard was being held without bail. Jail records didn't list an attorney.

You know babies learn stuff pretty quickly. She may have been able to wiggle around and fall off the bed.She was 6 months old she's old enough to start wiggling around and trying to turn over.I guess her injuries were not consistant with falling off the bed.And where was the mother in all of this ? Who was watching this child ?
