A Eufaula man was arrested after a child came in to Flowers Hospital with fractured bones, head injuries and internal injuries.
Cornelius Jerrell Jenkins, 25, was arrested on Sept. 17. A press release states that in August, hospital staff called Barbour County authorities after the three-year-old was brought in. The mother of the child told the staff that the child had fallen off her bed. She was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and placed in the critical care unit.
Lt. David Morris of the Sheriff’s Department stated that the child was released from the hospital on Sept. 10. She was interviewed at the Russell County Child Advocacy Center on Sept.13. She disclosed that Jenkins had caused her injuries. Jenkins is the mother's boyfriend.
An investigation was launched and led to all children at the home to be take out and placed with either relatives or foster care.
The press release says that Jenkins is being held at the Henry County Jail for safety reasons. His bond has been set at $50,000. A condition of his bond is to not have contact with any children.
