The Opelika-Auburn News reports that attorneys completed a status hearing Friday for the trial of Gregory Lance Henderson.
Henderson has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect in the killing of deputy James Anderson during a traffic stop in Smiths Station.
Prosecutors say Anderson and another officer had pulled Henderson over on suspicion that his vehicle had a switched tag.
They say Henderson failed to comply with an order to exit his vehicle and instead accelerated and hit the deputy, pinning him under the car.
Anderson was pronounced dead at Columbus Regional Medical Center.
