On 02-13-2011, at approximately 7:40 PM, a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a white Chevy Blazer on Hwy 231, north of Cottondale, for a traffic infraction.
The deputy approached the vehicle and immediately detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The deputy obtained the required information from the driver to complete a warning citation for the traffic violation. The deputy also asked for consent to search the vehicle; the driver denied consent.
While the deputy was completing the warning citation a K-9 Deputy arrived on scene and deployed his K-9. The K-9 alerted to the odor of a scheduled substance emanating from the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed seventeen (17) grams of marijuana packaged separately with intent to distribute. The search also revealed numerous small jewelry bags and digital scales. These items are commonly used in the distribution of illegal substances.
The defendant, Marjoune Johnson-Dean, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
