On the evening of September 26, 2013 the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call involving shots being fired into a residence in Campbellton.
When officers arrived it was learned that Thabit Mateen and an unknown subject driving a pick-up truck stopped in front of a residence on Quarters Court. The owner of the residence observed Mateen sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle and then saw “fire” and realize she was being shot at and pushed her daughter to the floor and laid on the top of her.
After Mateen shot into the residence four to five times with a shotgun, the driver of the vehicle departed southbound on Quarters Court. Three shotgun rounds entered the front of the home and exited the rear of the home. At the time of shooting the owner of the residence along with her ten children, ranging in age from 2 to 14-years-old were inside the home, but no one was injured.
On September 27, 2013 a warrant was issued for Thabit Nadir Mateen. It is believed that Mateen may be in the Dothan, Alabama area. As of this date the driver of the vehicle has not been identified.
