Inmate Charged in Death of Cell Mate

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - An Escambia County Jail inmate has been
charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of cell

Investigators say 32-year-old Brandon Ryan Switzer punched Jon
Gipson in the face inside the cell they shared.

Gipson fell backward onto the floor and died from his injuries on Dec. 17.

An autopsy determined that Gipson died from blunt force trauma to the

Switzer was charged Friday with manslaughter and battery.

Bond was set at $260,000.

Switzer had been in jail on a revoked bond for previous charges of battery, kidnapping, among other offenses.

The Pensacola News Journal reported Saturday that the Sheriff's
Office is awaiting the release of an investigation into jail operations by the U.S. Department of Justice.
