DALTON, Ga. (AP) -- Police in Dalton are investigating after gunshots were fired at five Dalton businesses during the past week.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/pLwcyf)
that the shootings happened in the middle of the night, when the
businesses were closed.

Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier said the shootings are
being investigated as acts of vandalism.

He said workers at a carpet business on North Park Drive on
Monday discovered ceiling damage from bullets shot at the building.

Police on Wednesday responded to an alarm at a cardiology center
to find that a window had been broken by a bullet, and a .45-caliber shell casing was found in the road in front of the business.
