Gunman Fires at Fla. School Board, Kills Self

Panama City school board members are describing an afternoon of terror. A gunman opened fire during a meeting Tuesday and it was all caught on tape. Now police look into the motive.

It was a disturbing scene; Clay duke began shooting at board members from just a few feet away.
We want to warn you, some viewers may find the video disturbing.

During the heated moments Bay District Schools Superintendent, William Husfelt shouted at Duke, “But why? If this is, this isn't worth it. This is a problem. Please don't. Please don't."

In the video you hear shots being fired and Duke claiming, "I'm going to kill you. Don't you understand?"

They were heart stopping moments for school board members Tuesday.

“It was surreal. We've used that word together. I mean, it was just like, we're at a board meeting, we're talking about technology and head lice, and the next thing we know, this guy's got a gun in our faces, “says Husfelt.

Amazingly, no one was hurt except the gunman, 56-year-old Clay Duke. Police say he died after shooting himself. Many say the hero of the day was the security officer, Mike Jones, who wounded duke after shooting him in the knee.

“I’m telling you, Mike saved our lives. Now it doesn’t get any more real than that,” stated Husfelt.

Before the rampage Duke spray painted a red circle and a 'V' on the wall at the meeting. Some think the action references the movie “V for Vendetta”, where a mysterious figure battles a totalitarian government.

When searching his home police also found multiple anti-government statements and military tactical books.

Another suspected motive for duke..

"We do know that within the last year that Mr. Duke's wife had been terminated from the school board,” says Chief Robert Colbert with the Panama City Police Department.

Bay County’s personnel director says Rebecca Crowder-Duke's contract was not renewed after her probationary period.

The superintendent says regardless of the motive, Duke had a mission that day.

“If you could have seen that gentleman’s eyes, this was going to happen. We could have had this place like Fort Knox and he would have shot us when we came out of the building. There was nothing we could have done to stop him.
We looked at Duke's Facebook profile. It had this cryptic message.

“My Testament: Some people (the government sponsored media) will say I was evil, a monster (V)... no... I was just born poor in a country where the Wealthy manipulate, use, abuse, and economically enslave 95% of the population.”

In all about 18 shots were fired in less than fifteen seconds at that meeting.
