Child care centers are supposed to be a safe haven for your kids, but local authorities say a daycare worker is charged with molesting a toddler while on the job.
Because of the nature of the crime the dale county sheriff's office isn't releasing much information.
Here's what we do know.
Back in August, the sheriff's office received a report that a two-year-old child was molested at a Level Plains day care.
Investigators say the little girl told her parents that a worker at her day care inappropriately touched her.
After filing the report, the investigators contacted the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center in Dothan to interview the child.
On Friday, the sheriff's office had enough evidence to issue a warrant for the arrest of James Kelly, 30.
He turned himself in Monday evening.
Kelly is charged with felony sex abuse of a child under the age of 12.
Sheriff's officials say this isn't an easy investigation.
"It's horrible to have to investigate because children go there thinking it's a play place. However, if for some reason somebody becomes errant in their behavior and becomes criminal, then we're going to step in. Parents need to know too that if an allegation does happen regardless of where it is we're going to take it very seriously. If someone has committed a crime we're going to do everything we can to prosecute them,” says Harvey Mathis, Dale County Sheriff’s Investigator.
Sheriff's investigators will continue to look into this case to see if there are more victims involved.
If convicted, Kelly faces two to 20 years in prison.
