The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Geneva, Alabama man in regards to a weekend burglary.
On the evening of Sunday, June 30th the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Stateline Liquor Store, located at 1065 Highway 179A in Westville.
The caller stated that his wife had been murdered and he was inside the store hiding from the killers.
Deputies responded to the store, which was closed for the day and observed the front glass door was shattered.
Inside the store, Deputies located a black male, later identified as Andrew Antonio Townsend hiding behind the counter. Townsend was taken into custody without incident.
Further investigation revealed Townsend had shattered the glass door by throwing a rock and squeezed by a second security door making his way into the store. Townsend then took a bottle of liquor and hid behind the counter while calling 911 stating that his wife had been murdered in the store. Townsend then began cutting himself with a knife.
When deputies arrived on scene, Townsend threw a bottle of liquor, breaking a light fixture. Townsend was placed under arrest and transported to the Holmes County Jail.
Because of Townsend’s altered state and appearance, deputies began a search for the female Townsend kept referring to as his wife.
With the assistance of the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneva Police Department, Townsend’s vehicle was located in a wooded area near the state line.
Later that evening, Investigators were able to locate the female alive and well in North Alabama.
