HINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Police have arrested a Fort Stewart
soldier and charged him with murder and cruelty to a child.
WTOC-TV reports that Trevor Thomas Cushman-Clifton was arrested Thursday and charged in the July death of his fiancee's 3-year-old daughter. Police say Cushman-Clifton was escorted from his unit to the Hinesville Police Department. It was not immediately clear whether he has a lawyer.
Police say Cushman-Clifton said in July that he heard a loud
noise coming from the toddler's room and found her unresponsive
when he went to check on her. The girl was taken to a hospital
where she was declared dead.
The 3rd Infantry Division Public Affairs Office says in a
statement that a joint investigation between the Fort Stewart
Criminal Investigation Division and the Hinesville Police
Department is ongoing.
